|
|
I'm working on a Nordic conlang at the moment, but i stumbled on a problem when i was thinking of what to call the concountry where it will be.
I wasn't sure where the Nordic countries got their names from, so i thought i'd ask here.
I mean their names in their own languages, |

This is all on wikipedia y'know...
Assuming that by Nordic you mean Scandinavian:
Norge/Noreg < Norđrvegr = northern way
Sverige < Svéariki = Empire/kingdom of the Swedes (Suiones)
Danmark < dan- probably refers to the people, and -mark means 'woodland' or 'borderland'
Fřroyar = Sheep islands
Ísland = Iceland/Land of ice _________________ 蛇 蛇 |

I wonder what Sweden would be called if it got its name from Götaland instead of Svealand. _________________ そうだ。死んでいる人も勃起することが出来る。

Then you of course get other variables, such as whether to use the irregular k>g change, whether to do some syncoping, etc.
I can't give a straight answer, but some possible forms could be Götarike, Götarige(Götarge), Götrike/Götrige. Who knows? :) _________________ 蛇 蛇 |

I'm sure it'd be Gödrige /jörje/. _________________ Trutt pá meg. |
